
Gold medals earned by Brooks at Firefit regionals The hometown fire department earned two gold medals at the Southern Prairie Regionals in Brooks on the weekend.
Nicole Ferroni, Erica Flaten and Lucille Pomedli took gold in the women’s relay event with a time of just over 2:29.
Teamed with Robert Harper in the NXG2 event, Flaten earned a second gold medal.
“I was very excited,” she said.

Local pilots talk about flying career in agriculture Kelly Dubé and Pat Stinnissen, two spray plane pilots who own Quikway Air Services Inc. in Brooks, said it all started with an interest in a flying career.
“I’ve always been interested in airplanes and my opportunity here was when I finished high school and started hanging around the airport,” said Dubé.
“Chiyoko Murakami had her flight school over here.”
He received his private license in the 80s and after working in the oil patch to pay for his flying lessons began working with Quikway Aviation, now known as Quikway Air Services.

Grasslands throwers medal at provincials Brooks and Bassano athletes turned in outstanding results at the recent provincial track and field championships. All are with the Grasslands Throwers Club.
Brooks Composite High grade 12 student Lara Roth earned two gold medals, bringing her total to five gold medals over three years.
Roth has won gold in discus for three consecutive years and has been the provincial shot put champion for the past two years.
Her winning throws were 10.89m in shot put and 42.82m in discus. Her next closest discus thrower registeered 28.78m. | Read Full Story>  |
