Brooks wins Communities in Bloom award
The City of Brooks earned a top award in the Communities in Bloom Class of Champions (medium category). The award was presented on Saturday in Kamloops, B.C. during the Communities in Bloom National and International Awards and Symposium. “I was a little caught off guard,” said Phil Lunn, the city’s parks services supervisor, who accepted the award on behalf of Brooks Communities in Bloom.

JV Lady Buffalos perfect on weekend
The Brooks Composite High JV Lady Buffalos hosted their home volleyball tournament this past weekend and despite some shaky moments, the team put things together when they needed to and came away with the tournament championship. Action opened up Saturday morning with the Lady Buffalos hosting their neighbor to the west from St. Joseph’s Collegiate. Brooks started fast in this affair and never let the Crusaders in the match as they posted a 25-12 win to get things off on the right foot. St. Joe’s put up much more of a battle in the second set, leading for much of the contest before the Buffalos went on a late run pulling off the straight set win, 25-17.

You’d be hard bound to find anyone as into the written word in as the new librarian at Brooks Junior High. Sure some people like books, but Van Horne lives and breathes them.
